I was born at number three Wilmslow Court and moved to Reddish not long after as far as I know before moving back to live in Heaton Norris at 24 Longsight Street where I spent most of my childhood. I am one of a large family of eight and remember living next to Huxley's corner shop. I also remember Finch's shop not sure what street, I also remember Nellie and Nora's sweet shop on Brunswick Street but I think it may have been actually called Singleton's?
I attended Christ Church school and left in 1964, which is also the year we moved away from Heaton Norris.
Some of the people I remember are, Jimmy Whelan, Jimmy Bailey, Derek White, Billy White, Kenny Hester, Alan Docherty, John and James Bohanna, Mr Wisbech who lived off Ardwick Court, known as the 'Big Yard'.
I also remember Bardsley's ice cream van which was horse drawn, as well as Levaggis, ice cream van and Meschias ice cream van as well.
I can also recall Bennett's butchers and Clarks chip shop on Heaton Lane, as well as Jepson's newsagents on Brinksway Road and Denton's newsagents on Travis Brow.
I remember standing outside the Railway pub at the top of George's Road collecting a penny for the guy.
